02 6056 1345Stroke or cerebral vascular disease is a common condition in the elderly. The recovery from a stroke varies significantly. Some patients may recover with minimal neurological deficit, however, the majority of patients suffer persistent disabilities, including loss of function in arm or leg, speech difficulty and cognitive impairment.
Rehabilitation and secondary prevention are the only available options
use scalp acupuncture or conbine with body (classic) acupuncture.
The treatment should start as soon as possible to maximize the benefit. Improvement will be minimal if the stroke is over 3 years.
The course of treatment is divided into 3 parts. The initial phase is 4 weeks. Patients are treated 2 or 3 times per week. The quick recovery phase is 4-8 weeks. Patients are treated 1 or 2 times per week. The maintenance phase is 6 months. Patients are treated from weekly to monthly.
Acupuncture is a well-tolerated safe treatment. Patients experience pain less than intra-muscular injection and blood tests. However, patients may experience acupuncture-specific sensation, De Qi, which might feel like vague tingling and lasts seconds.
The risk of bleeding is low, even in patients on antiplatelet and anticoagulation therapies, such as aspirin, clopidogrel and warfarin. Please advise us if you are taking any blood thinners.
Dementia is a condition characterized by progressive loss of memory and function. Dementia can be caused by strokes (vascular dementia) and degeneration (Alzheimer's disease).
Dementia is a progressive disease, which is unlikely to be permanently reversed or cured. The goal is to maintain current functional status and improve cognitive function. Acupuncture may be one of options.
The initial protocol varies according to severity. Severe dementia (MMSE <12) - daily treatments may be required for 4 weeks, then reassess Moderate dementia (MMSE 13-20) - 3 times per week for 4 weeks, then reassess Mild dementia (MMSE 20-24) - twice per week for 4 weeks, then reassess

Parkinson's disease is a progressive, nervous system degenerative disorder characterized by resting tremor, stiffness (rigidity), slow and decreased movement (bradykinesia), and gait and/or postural instability.
Unfortunately, PD is not curable with current treatments. The objects vary at different stages of PD.
• Early-stage: the aims are to maintain NORMAL function with medication, and to slow or pause the progression of PD.
• Advanced-stage: the aims are to partially reverse function impairment such as unsteady gait, ,and to improve the efficacy of medications
• Late-stage: the aims are to maintain the function for home care, and to minimize side effects of high dose medications,
The initial course is 10 treatments. The 10 sessions are delivered over 4-6 weeks for early-stage PD. Patients with advanced-stage PD will have 10 treatments over 3-4 weeks. Daily treatments for 2 weeks are required for late-stage PD
